England's opening game in the 2022 World Cup is against Iran. We are ranked 5th in the world, Iran 20th. The two sides have never met and it has to be said that Iran's preparation, in terms of actual results, appears to be better than England's - our winless run stretches back to March with 3 defeats and 3 draws, scoring just 4 goals (3 of those in the 3-3 draw with Germany). However, when compared, the level of opposition England have faced is higher than that Iran have faced.

Despite the poor form, the heat and the weight of expectation, i expect us to win our opener. So why the question mark? Well, the poor form, the heat and the weight of expectation :-)

We are around the 1/3 mark to win but Willy Hill are offering EVENS to a max stake of £10. The reason i am putting this up now (the game isn't played until Monday) is because i don't know when the offer will be withdrawn.

But its not a dead cert win, especially if its really hot ....these early games are often 0-0 or 1-0

England are a good side. They'll give any team a good game. But they're not good enough to win this tournament. I think the best they can hope for, the very best, is the semi-final. I would like to be wrong and see England win the World Cup. I've seen them do it once before!
However, I would say you should keep your money in your pockets folks.

Yes, it is Dave but wouldn't people think about the chances first? How good are the teams? I don't gamble and wouldn't bet on anything but I know people who do and they look at all that stuff. I would still say, keep your money in your pockets folks!

Bobb, they're not my 'tips'. I don't do 'tips'. They are the games selected by WH for their Epic Odds. I have done 6 so far and have been successful 4 times.

10C; I agree that England will not win this WC. In fact, i don't believe they'll reach the semis, but they really ought to make the knockout stages and to do that, one would expect they'll have to win their opener. It's a tenner, not the crown jewels.

I have a William Hill account but I rarely make results bets, I prefer to watch a game and bet in play for next goal/card/etc.

Ken, I wouldn't spend 10p on betting, never mind a tenner. It still baffles me why so many people part with their money in this way. Hey ho!

10C. I wouldn't put a tenner on a 1/3 shot. In fact, i wouldn't put a tenner on an even money shot. But an even money shot which should be 1/3 is something else. No big deal if i lose a tenner - there's a few more where that came from. No big deal if i win a tenner. It's just getting one over on a firm i regularly use anyway.
I love gambling, pitting my wits against the various firms i use. I do spend some time researching the likely chances of success of my bets, even these 'giveaways' and, of course, i'll only take part if the odds are more in my favour than the bookies.
I am in no way advocating that anyone on AB should part with their money on this bet. I am merely informing those who do have a punt that the bet is available.
REMEMBER; Gamble within your means and, when the fun stops - STOP!

In addition to my earlier reply to your post; Just read back through my Man City v Brentford thread, Bobb, and nowhere did i mention City to beat Brentford. The bet was KDB to have a shot on target - which he did. Bet won.

Bet won. Unfortunately i also took evens on Kane having a shot on target. Despite the fact we bagged 6 goals, Harry turned provider rather than scorer.
