Why is he not good enough for the German team Baz? I don't think he's ever applied to be the Germany manager.

Borussia Dortmund

Paris Saint Germain

Chelsea

Bayern Munich

He's a pretty good management history.

A friend asked what would happen when England played Spain if Pep Guardiola got the job - I said England would probably lose, as usual!

"It's not a matter of life and death is it (I've heard said)."

I think it was the late Bill Shankly, dave, who said "Some people believe football is a matter of life and death. Of course it isn't - it's far more important than that!"

Unfortunately some people believe him.

Good luck to Herr Tuchel. If he can get a few wins out of the ragbag collection of prima donnas that play at the highest level then good luck to him. That is assuming he can find any English players among them who are not already moaning that two matches a week for £10m+ per annum is all too much for them.

I hope he doesn't succeed. The hype when we merely participate is bad enough. If we get to the last eight it's insufferable. God knows what it would be like in the unlikely event that we actually won something.

Since the manager has such a large effect on the performance of a team, perhaps the question should be "Should any national teams be allowed to have a foreign manager"?

Do managers apply for the top jobs or are they invited, Mozz?

Do they not 'throw their hats in the ring', Barry?

I think the truth is that they let it be known they are interested in a certain managerial position and wait to be contacted.

Surely any football manager would prefer to manage his own national team - given the chance.

We had an English Manager who had a 100% win record, but the FA got rid of him because he didn't suit their standards of behaviour (well, not the ones they paraded before us all, I doubt if they were so 'perfect' secretly).

Let's see what happens, I liked him at Chelsea, and the problem wasn't him it seemed it was within the team itself.  They just were not the side they were ,  and players imposed on him that didn't fit in. ( play the ones that sell the most merch.)  He will have more involvement with selection with the national side and could do a decent job.

Barry, they usually apply for a vacancy, but I suspect FAs often tap up agents to see if they're interested.

A lot of managers prefer the hands-on, day to day aspects of managing a club team over the once every two months national jobs.

"If he is not their first choice, he shouldn't be ours"

If he was their first choice he wouldn't be available, this is muddled thinking and could apply to anyone, anywhere in any field.

All that confirms is that a foreign manager may generally be a questionable choice.

The other side of the coin which says you wouldn't join any club that would accept you as a member.

Will the fans feel comfortable singing about bombers, two World Wars, and one World Cup?

Depends whether we're winning or losing, Sandy. There's nought as fickle as yer average football fan.
