Listening on the radio today about the game betwen the best two teams in england. Was surprised to hear there were only 10 english players in the 2 teams.
Six on one side and four on the other side.

Is this a sign of the times?
Do you think that one day an english team will win a european cup with no english players atall?

thats global warming leyenda .
The only way forward is for all players to be black or ethnic minority, for the crowd the be all black or ethnic minority, and the manager Scottish.
Not sure but to me it begs the question 'why should these top clubs take the FA Cup passionately when their squad is not English and neither is their manager' The FA Cup for the big 4 or 5 clubs is of no interest or importance anymore sad but true
it explains why the england team is so poor, there is no new homegrown talent
There is.

Just that they don't give our boys a chance!
thats what I mean funnygirl, why bother with ours when they have ronaldo and drogba to make british teams look good in europe.

yet our national team still cannot qualify for the euro 2008
They were also representing Europe which includes lots of different countries.

I don't understand the issue. Good football / spectatorship of any performing art etc makes nationality irrelevant in my view.
its at the expense of creating a really good national team
If, say, the FA put a limit or cap on the number of foreign players in a club, then any English players who are half decent would probably hike their fees straight after boot camp and only become affordable to foreign clubs.

Ok, we might get to see a decent England side once every two or three years, but the premiership could be reduced to a 22 sacks of lego bricks chasing a whoopie cushion around a field. A bit like watching Gillingham vs Port Vale.

Premiership supporters want to see flashy good foreign primadonnas. Anything less would mean they are not getting value for their 1,000 per annum season ticket.

octavius are you p1ssed?
it was the champions league.
tho how you can have 2 league champions from 1 country puzzles me also
if young england players are good enough they will make the teams, the likes of rooney gerrard carragher lampard terry etc all came through the various youth set ups, it is the foreign talent that make the premiership the best and most exciting league in the world, young players can only learn from a ronaldo, torres fabregas, etc if you cap the number of foreign players the league will cease to attract the worlds best players and the game will suffer
No I have not been drinking, where have I erred?

Isn't the Champions League intended for the most successful football clubs in Europe and therefore representing Europe in the world.

The fact that both teams came from the English premiership is an achievement and representative of the quality of football we get to see week in week out in England. The fact that the players are multi-national is a testament to what England has to offer.

As bob says, if british players are good enought they'll make the teams. Just seems to be another chink in the chain of blame culture.

Can you explain how they were both champions ?

And theyre representing the respective countries they are based in.
Not europe as yet theres no european team.
If there was how many english players would be in it ?

In your opinion of course?
Exactly the same thing happens in Scotland, how may Scots playing for the big two?
'if british players are good enought they'll make the teams. Just seems to be another chink in the chain of blame culture.'

or it could be another example of giving all the work to foreigners
money and the power of the big clubs allows more than one side from a country into it, in the olden days the european cup was for the champions only now with the bigger leagues up to 4 are allowed in, but you have to remember would you rather the estonia champions in the tournament at the expense of the 2nd placed team in the premiership? the best clubs should have the chance to win europe's greatest prize and whatever its faults the champions league is a huge success
Are you just acting the fool or are you really one?

Where did I say they were both champions? Fool.

They are representing their team, their nation, and european football on the world stage. Fool.

I imagine there would be about 4 or 5 english players in a european team. Which is failry representative given the number of countries it would encompass.
its true cazz english players come through look at your club villa why would you want a sub standard league? cream will always rise to the top in any industry the youth development of other countries is superior to england's the coaches will pick english players if they are good enough, do you think alex ferguson wenger or whoever care about where a player comes from?
an example arsene wenger looks at 2 players one is english the other Spanish the Spanish one is better is he meant to say"god no we cant have the spanish player he is foreign pick the inferior english model" what head of a plc would operate like that? its professional suicide

Sorry octavius youre obviously on crack if u think thered be 5 players from england in a european team.

Get real youre living in the past .

Bob its detrimental to the game.
Lets face it if last nights game was the best 2 english teams it makes you think , because it wasnt a very good game atalll , infact pretty dull.
Without the foreign players ib expect it wouldve been duller.

Whats that say about the homegrown talent ?

Mediocre at best im afraid.
