You keep hearing people banging on about how Man City have the best fans in the world ( a couple on this site, amongst others), yet they have 7000 empty seats for a local derby against Blackburn, and I notice they are now knocking out seats for the Portsmouth at a rate of 25 quid for adult and child. Surely, if they were the greatest fans in the world, they would be able to fill a 47000 capacity stadium without "giving them away" for £12.50

Well, ours are pretty good.

We have a really sh!t ground, mostly not covered ... but we mostly fill it.

We mix happily with away supporters. We share a pub with them, and sometimes share a stand with them if they don't take up all their allocation. We happily mix with them down in the town after the game.

We still turn up and stand in the rain at the end of the season when we are in the relegation zone.

We have to sit about 20 yards from the edge of the pitch, but we make enough noise to give the players a boost when they need it.

Man City fans? ... Paah ... !!

ps. We also have no money to spend on big players, so we cheer loudly for the players we have.

But Les, were you at the game on Saturday? 7-2 and it was like a morgue (apart from the beautiful 'Rafa Benitez we want you to stay' chant. We're becoming more like the Highbury library every day.

No, cambellking, I wasn't at the Bridge, but the you are spot on, the atmosphere is dire. I sometimes reminisce about "the good old days" when the place used to be rocking with 25000 "real fans". Even during the woeful relegation seasons, you could usually count on the crowd getting behind the team. I think perhaps our new brigade of johnny-come-latelys are the new prawn sandwich brigade.
