I asked my partner this question and she replied 2,000.

If I did not know the answer already, I would have thought that a reasonable guess.

But apparently the answer is 52,000 – I only know this because they have announced that they are considering reducing the number by 2,000.

If I were leader of Birmingham City Council, the number would be reduced by 50,000.

2000 wouldn't be many, think of all the schools, colleges and libraries, they must employ loads of people! Admittedly wouldn't have guessed 52,000 though!
According to this article 35,000 are currently employed.

they are big local authority, 2000 is nothing
So how many do you think work for Boris Johnson's mob then?

Clearly too many
Are you still believing you would be able to reduce numbers on Birmingham County Council to 2,000? I'm surprised you didn't leave this thread in embarrassment after that statement! You have to laugh.
is it just because 35,000 seems like a lot of people, or do you know something in depth about the city councils managment of birmingham?
"they are big local authority"

Birmingham City Council is the largest Local Authority in Europe.
It employs a staff of around 60,000 of which around 41,000 are full-time.
