With less than a year to go, who do you think will be given the honour of bringing the Olympic flag into the stadium. The tradition is that it is brought into the stadium by eight distinguished former Olympians of the host nation.

Here is my guess.

Sir Steve Redgrave (if he hasn't been chosen to light the flame).
Dame Mary Peters
Dame Kelly Holmes.
Daley Thompson
Sir Matthew Pinsent
Duncan Goodhew
Linford Christie
Sally Gunnell

This is just my guess and you may come up with people of whom I haven't thought.

Just because he's the Chairman of the organising committee, I don't see why Seb Coe should be excluded from your list!

Jonathan Edwards seems to another well-placed contender:

Of course. Jonathan Edwards. I hadn't thought of him. I suppose many more will come to light.

I would imagine that Lord Coe will be a little bit too busy on the night to take part.
Richard Meade, I know it's going back some years but he was the lynchpin of the Three Day Event gold winning teams in both Mexico and Munich, his ride in Mexico was during one of the worst downpours ever! It would also give a wider spread of sports. In addition Ben Ainslie, the yachtsman, has won any number of gold medals.
