On the eve of the Giro d'Italia, history beckons Sir Bradley to follow his TdF 2012 victory to go on to become the first Briton to win the Giro.

Best of luck to them. The Tour is visiting Britain this year, I wonder if there will be a bit more of an atmosphere post-2012 Olympic cycling fever?

I certainly hope so too Ed. The awarding of the start of the TdF here in 2014 and the Giro in Northern Ireland/Ireland was done so as a reward for Bradley's win, Team GB Cycling's continued success and the subsequent resurgence in UK cycling in general.

Long may it continue.

The Tour of Britain is coming through my home town in September and I've already booked the day off work to go and watch and support.

Congratulations to Mark Cavendish on winning the first stage, despite his lead-out failing. The Manx Missile wears the Maglia Rosa tonight in his 11th stage win at the Giro.
Sir Bradley stays in touch, some 18 seconds behind along with all the other main contenders.

Team Sky win the Stage 2 time trial and Bradley Wiggins moves to second in the GC(general classification), his team mate Puccio wears the Maglia Rosa tonight.
Even better news for Wiggo is that he has put 25 seconds into Ryder Hejedal, current holder of the Giro title and one of his main rivals.

Unfortunately, Sir Brad has had to retire. Initially a good start, but crashes, fall and illness have combined to see him drop further and further back on a daily basis, to the point that there is no point risking his health further.

The rest of Team Sky look in good shape though and hopefully Wiggo can re-invigorate himself for the TdF.
