Coverage of snooker matches on TV often includes match stats between frames, and there are two (presented as per centages) that always make me go "Hmmm"!
LONG POT SUCCESS. At what point does a pot become a long pot?
SAFETY SUCCESS. What is it that determines whether or not a safety shot is successful?
I think it was John Virgo who said today during one of the matches that a long pot is determined by the cue ball being over six feet from the object ball. Can't comment on safety success.
I suppose long pots are defined vaguely, but I'd say that a pot is long if the distance between cue ball and object ball is at least half the length of the table. A safety is successful if the white reaches the baulk area, so that it passes the line of yellow, green, brown.

Thanks peeps.
The 6 foot benchmark seems to make sense. I'm sort of convinced by the baulk area suggestion, but not totally sold on it - only because there will be safety shots that don't require the cue ball ending up there but, at the same time, maybe that type of shot is the only one taken into account for the safety success stats.
