I think Ronnie, like Stephen Fry, suffers from bipolar disorder, so maybe this was related to his illness. I agree it might look disrespectful to the game and to people to whom that's a lot of money.
He always says he likes to entertain the crowd, and the crowd loves a maximum, so I'm surprised he didn't complete it. However, perhaps the excitement had already been achieved and he was just making a point to the organisers of the tournament.
Snooker players dont get a lot of money compared to other sports stars.
It's not like this money was "not won" - because it is rolled forwards it will be won one day, by him or someone else. He reckons whoever does win it deserves a bit more than £10K, which as his opinion is fair enough.

Not only that, but he took an easier shot on the final red in order to make his 146 clearance which puts him in line for a £2K highest break prize. Had he taken on the tougher shot he may not even have made the 146, let alone the 147.

It was him said 10000 was not enough the difficulty of the shot does not come in to it
who is to say that his decision was disrespectful. Are people who spend their money on....say a motorbike or a boat or a holiday disrespectful?
No, woofgang. Anyone can spend their money on whatever they like, of course. I didn't read the actual newspaper report on the match.
Before reading ellipsis' post here I had assumed he'd deliberately missed the final black in order to make a point to the organisers of the tournament with regards to payment.
I stand by my earlier post, anyway.
