I have been with my partner just under 13 years and we have 2 children. I have dragged my heels with marriage and it got to the point where life got in the way and got harder for me to ask the question..
Anyway I'm doing it tomorrow..
I have made a large photo album with different heading about our life, kids, pets and holidays. On the last page I have a large picture of both my kids holding a sign saying Will you Marry Daddy?
The ring I am using was my Nana's engement ring that was bought by my Grandads in the 50s...I had my my Nana's blessing to use the ring last Monday and sadly she passed away on the Wednesday.
The ring means a lot to my and my partner thought the world of my Grandparents.
I'm just scared that when I present the ring that she might not like it...I know she will when I tell her the story about it.
When I open the ring box should I tell her the story about the ring before I put it on her finger?
I'm really nervous about it all....
Thanks for any suggestions.

How wonderful and romantic, best wishes xxx After the emotion of the moment quietly say that if she would like to choose her own ring then that too would be fine. She can still wear Nana's ring on occasion.

Well its a bit late now but I think if you wish to use a family ring it might have been better to establish how she feels about it in principle before offering her fait accompli......I do wish you well and good luck though.
Is the ring nice?

Yes is is and has been cleaned and resized.
It was done on the spur of a moment and I'm sure she will love as my Nana meant the world to me.
My partner always commented that they were a special couple who were in love after 60 years of marriage.

Brilliant suggestion Mamy.

Thanks for the answers!
I didn't want to mention about the ring beforehand or she would know my intentions.
I will mention about another ring though.
So should I explain before I put it on her finger? If she says yes!!
I agree with Mamy.and how very sweet and romantic! Let us know how you get on. I bet tears will come to her eyes.
As it comes out of the box , mention another ring if she wises then see what happens naturally from there.

Don't over think it - be happy ♥

Mamy is spot on again.

Thanks all, really appreciate the advice
Put it on her finger and say that you hope you will be as happy as your grandparents were. The placing of the ring is very much part of the proposal so I would do that first and then tell her she can choose another ring if she would like (you can of course, design a ring with the stones from that one)
oh this is so romantic it's made me blubber ,xx
Thinking of you today and willing you to come back later to tell us all about the proposal. Have a wonderful day.
