MS Excel 2003 question

Hi All

I have one question relating to XL 2003.

I have cells formatted as text and with 'wrap text' selected.

It appears that each cell can only hold 255 characters. I counted! After this the cell returns to one line height and shows all '#' characters. The full contents are still shown in the formula bar.

In the Help section under Specifications and Limits I have found the following entry:

Length of cell contents (text) 32,767 characters. Only 1,024 display in a cell; all 32,767 display in the formula bar.

This appears to contradict what I have found in practice or have I misunderstood something?
Anyhow, does anyone know how many characters i should be able to see on screen in the above situation?

Is it just normal text you are putting in the cell (i.e. not a formula) because I've tried to replicate this problem and am unable to do so when using normal, plain, text.

Yes, it is just normal text in a cell formatted as text and with 'wrap text' selected. Everything goes ok at first. Text enters fine and wrapping works as it should. When I go past 255 characters it all collapses and shows # as for normal overflow indication.
