World championship bowls
3 Answers
I've just been watching world championship bowls this afternoon and I noticed that every time one of the bowls strikes the jack - the ref marks that particular bowl with 2 spots from some kinda spray that he has.
What's the reson behind marking these bowls - anyone any ideas plzz ???

If the touching bowl is cannoned out, then it can still be identified if it lands in the ditch.
Normally a bowl landing in the ditch is dead - a toucher is still alive.

Should a bowl be rolled up and comes into contact with the jack it is marked with chalk or chalk spray to Identify it as being a live bowl should it be knocked into the ditch and would therefore count as a scoring bowl should that bowl be closest to the jack at the finish of that end ,, usually if a bowl travels via being hit or directly into the ditch without touching another bowl it is deemed as a dead bowl and does not count
