Codswallop, I've played golf all my life and never liked the chord grips or the other fancy stuff. I always go for the basic rubber grip. But it's a question of personal preference isn't it? And the way you grip the club, of course.

I think its largely dependent on your individual grip feel, some people need the grip to feel sticker or smoother, the diameter has to suit your hand size.

depending on where you get your grips from (ie: american golf) they can tailor the grip to suit you.
I agree with clarion though, nothing wrong with standard grips.
cazz is right on - just check on water resistance of your candidate grip if you are a heavy weather player would be my advice.....

Thanks to you both. When I come to think of it ,when I first bought the clubs they only had standard rubber grips,so why change?
the grooves in the grips can wear out if you have a very strong grip over a long period makig them smoother and less sticky, so sometimes it is necessary to chage your grips.

Hi DT not quite sure of "candidate grip" as I do play all year round
makes sense - ever had your swing analysed for the angle you hold your club at etc - that can be fascinating - I used a set of Rams and found that I was limiting my sweet spot as my club head came in at a slight angle up. Correction was to have the club heads tilted at 3 degrees downwards...big difference on the spot and I went with the Taylor-Mades by the way. Reasonable handicap here...
Im 1 degree flat :)
