Should politicians think about the consequences of their words before speaking?

Cameron mad a speech which was seen as giving the green light to the bash a burglar brigade. Within hours of that a suspected burglar was stabbed to death. Has Cameron blood on his hands?

I think he backed the use of reasonable force, unless the burglar was attacking the home-owner that's a little bit beyond reasonable force. You can't blame DC for that!

Why have you singled out one speech by Cameron? No, surely you are not of left of centre political persuasion......nothing to be ashamed of, you have plenty of support.

Let us see if DC gets the blame in the press, sure some of the lefties out there will ramp up the story, into one of lets blame the PM and the tories for saying you should defend your homes at any costs. I think that he is damned if he says something and damned if he doesn't, one less burglar, indeed.

I'm a lefty em10, I'm pretty sure the majority will take his words for what they are and not an invitation to kill someone.... unless there is a lefty version of the Daily Mail I don't know about!
I think reasonable force may be deliberately vague so as to adopt a case by case attitude. This fella's died of a stab wound, if it's discovered that, say, it was from a knife he brought in and the homeowner used the burglars knife in a struggle to save himself with one single blow... I personally would say that was reasonable force, but I suppose others may disagree.

I`m a leftie too Em & Mr Cameron`s speech & the incident are just a coincidence.DC was only advocating what everybody should & would do.
Yes it wiil be interesting to see how some of the press dovetail the two, but if people want to believe what the papers put down then so be it.

Indeed, some will think one more criminal out of it, others will think the opposite. Personally i would brain the person, and think of consequences after, nearly did to one potential thief, but the little rabbit scarpered before i could get the shovel.

mick-talbot no, but we have been burgled, and that is something i won't forget in a hurry. Add to that have been mugged, and had a purse stolen whilst i was shopping. No i don't feel kindly to them, nor would i go out of my way to say, come in do and help yourself to our valuables, i will stomp the next criminal who gets in my path.

No I'm glad someone in Parliament has seen sense at last. If someone is breaking into my home I would expect to defend my privacy and my property with whatever means I have to hand, be it a knife a large knobbly walking stick of even a pan of boiling water. Serve them right.
