No wonder I don't really enjoy football

That game, just on, England-Wales, was pretty dire. I had decided to stay in rather than head for the pub, partly as it is another crap night outside, weatherwise. That was a mistake.
England's goal wasn't bad but, overall, a pretty moribund performance.
(i) that wasn't a performance of a European Championship side. Agree? Do England really have a chance?
(ii) Why does one have to watch so many dire games to get a good one?
Congrats Wales for your attempt and it should have really been 1-1
Bring on the Rugby World Cup, starting this Friday.

I Used to watch a great deal of football - ok semi-pro level live, very occasional First Division (before the Premier League) live and Match of The Day - but the practice of passing it back and forth along the back four has totally ruined my viewing pleasure.
Even Internationals are not worth the effort!!

In the days when I watched club football (when it was marginally more entertaining than “Songs of Praise”) International football was invariably rubbish. And it seems it still is.
Apparently last year’s World Cup was no exception. Day after day of tedium with the occasional burst of mediocrity. Why do football fans expect anything different? A squad of “stars” is drawn together for the odd kickabout from time to time (forcing the cancellation of all the matches that their employers want them to play) and people expect them to perform to the highest level.
Why ???
Why do England have trouble producing a team capable of success? Because top flight football in England is played by teams with scarcely an Englishman in them.
Simples !!

I hate football, but I watched the first 15 minutes of this match because the young chap across the road wanted to watch it (I know - I am a great softie). Anyway, I feel I must say that I was amazed at the Welsh defenders. Practically all of their 'work' was at their end of the pitch defending their goal, and a very good job they made of it too. A pity they didn't seem to be able to attack the English goal, but I thought they were very good. I see England won, but only managed one goal and I can believe that! I know nothing of football, and I am English but I still think Wales deserved to win, although they didn't.
