It's usually Liverpool fans who find this "Thursday night on Channel 5" chant funny- although of course they didn't qualify for any European competition whereas the Manchester clubs finished 1st and joint 2nd in the Premiership last year and Man City won the FA Cup I recall

'Real' euro football is on Tues/Wed nights on Sky/ITV - Channnel 5 shows the distinctly third rate stuff on Thursday ... usually involving Tractor Plovdiv playing Watford.
