When I offered to do the links this month, I was away in Gran Canaria and didn’t have a diary with me; I hadn’t realized until well into the second week that I would have to produce 5 ‘essays’. I can ramble on about things I know for ever but try to make something up is not that easy for me. One of my granddaughters has the same problem and struggles with writing essays on subjects about which she knows little.

So what can I talk about this time? I’ve bored you with Gran Canaria, my garden and golf and in my previous time as a setter told you my life story, so what now?

Last week I was in Leicestershire for a couple of days for a 'golf rules' seminar. I stayed at my brother’s place in the middle of nowhere and was delighted to see so much wildlife at first light. I’ll leave you to guess what I saw!

We had our annual coffee morning at the golf club last week, when we try to raise some money for the County Captain’s Charity (Parkinson’s) and my Captain’s charity (Rainbow Trust Children's Charity). I baked a cake as a prize for people to guess the weight . To make it simpler to make a list of weights I did it in grams – that caused chaos as hardly anyone worked in grams and they were desperately trying to convert their pounds and ounces to grams. Never mind it was all a great success.

One of my small hobbies is to record the rainfall in my garden, which I have been doing since 1996. It has been quite an interesting exercise to compare the rainfall for each year. It varies quite considerably, from 19.+ inches to over 32. with an average of about 25.50, but if I look at the records you can bet your bottom dollar that we will have a relatively dry Spring and the real rain will come the second the schools break up in late July and continue until the kids go back to school.

I appreciate that what we get here in the North East is not replicated throughout the country. Some have had more than the average and others much less. Of course the West gets more rain than we do as the Pennines force the clouds to dump their loads before they cross over to the East – otherwise we wouldn’t have the Lake District!!
I know the South and South East are struggling, what we do need is to have a Minister of Drought appointed as we did in the very hot year of 1976. As soon as the post was filled the heavens opened and didn’t stop, so that within a few weeks the reservoirs were overflowing again.

I must record my sincere thanks to Gen2 who has guided, advised and corrected my offerings. He does a tremendous amount of work behind the scenes – far more than I have done during this month. He has to be available every Saturday and Sunday to make sure all goes well. Without him MM Links wouldn’t take place unless somebody else volunteers. Bless you Gen2, the weekend wouldn’t be the same without our weekly dose of Links.
Question Author
According to normal practice, for the everyday running of MM, I shall follow this rule on word length, in that each of my pre-selected link words contains at least four letters and at most eight letters. Stray outside this range and you will be wasting one of your attempts!

Each of the selected link words may go in front of, or behind my challenge word.
The competition will officially close on Sunday Evening at 7.00pm, when gen2 will declare my pre-selected words and then apply the same rules for awarding points that have been applied during all MM Link Games in the past. My set of four words to have their links predicted should appear below at 9.00am.
