Thanks guys for all the responses! You have helped me prove a point. I also apologise as it was intended as a wind up to prove that point.
For the last week we have had a family member staying who has been working as a Games Maker at the Olympic Stadium and has some interesting views on LOCOGs organisational abilities. My point was that the politicians and Officials have been hyping up the games, to stop us looking too closely at the cost. They have been helped greatly on this by the success of the athletes, so much so that I said that anybody who expressed a contrary view would meet howls of protest, which this thread did!
In point of fact the top athletes will make some gains out of their participation, perhaps the less successful ones will be pushed to make it worth their while apart from their love of their sport. However the officials will be very pleased - as it is doubtful that anybody given the amazing results so far will be asking too many questions about the financial aspects when the time comes to take a final look after the games are over.
So, apologies and thank - I actually spent yesterday working at an Olympic Big Screen event so am not quite the monster you may have thought!
I have marked Gness's answer as the best thought on this.
Enjoy the rest of the games! Will Oscar win on the track?
