it is on record (from posts i made last week) that i have no interest in sports -- just the opening and closing ceremonies.

however .. over the last few days - having seen the medal tally go up - with the regatta, the cycling, and others, including the anticipation tonight for jessica ennis - i have found myself tuning in more and more frequently to the events.

it's really gripping.

But only if "Team GB" (does anyone know what happened to Northern Ireland?) is doing well, then? i.e it is not the "taking part" that counts, only the winning.
Dave explained last week that it's really Team UK
New Judge it's odd how it becomes Great Britain and Northern Ireland when the BBC is speaking about an Ulster member of the team and yet it's Great Britain the rest of the time.
Sorry, that should have read last Wednesday when he popped over
Jessica Ennis made the night for me - wonderful
I seem to recall reading that it's the IOC who made it GBR, there have to be 3 letters and UKR is Ukraine, don't know if that's right.
Great Britain and Northern Ireland can be abbreviated still to GBR.
