Usain Bolt is a fantastic runner but no-one who races him stands a chance except when hes not totally fit which happened recently. Im all for handicapping. With high jumpers nearly seven feet tall no-one of normal hight stands a chance. Same goes for all sports, even team sports like football. Give the lesser team a goal or two start.
Thats exactly what golf handicapping does.An 18 handicapper has every chance of beating the club professional in the monthly medal for example.
I'm not sure how it could be implemented in professional sport other than boxing, weightlifting.
How about handicapped events (eg Bolt to start 2m back) and open events where there is no handicapped. Watched the high jumping last night. The bar started at 2.20m (7'3") The best jumper was the fella from Qatar. He was never going to win because he was also the shortest. The answer about pub teams in the world cup was a bit daft.
And I'm unfit & lazy which gives me a huge unfair disadvantage. Handicapping should be applied so I have a yard to race whilst Usain has a good half mile.
