Olympics Joint Gold?

Is it possible to have joint (or maybe more) gold medal winners for the same event in the Olympics? Has it happened? Can it happen? For example, if two high jumpers have jumped the same height and both can't improve on it, what happens? Or if two run the same time and can't be split, what happens there? I guess joint golds can be awarded, but I can't find news of any that have!

If a tie occurs, multiple medals will be given for whichever place was tied. For instance, if two people tie for the gold medal, two gold medals will be awarded, plus a bronze. No silver medal is awarded. When two people tie for a silver, a gold, two silvers and a bronze are awarded. And in the event of a tie for third place, a gold, a silver and two bronzes are awarded.

I saw in today's Mail that the Brownlee brothers had they been in first and second spots in the triathalon today, had wanted to cross the finish line together so that they could both be awarded a gold medal. They were told that if they had done this they could be disqualified.

thanks, I guess that link clears that up...

...however I did hear about the two Brownlee brothers running today, and their possible plans to finish together. The O' Feds did say they would be disqualified if this happened. Which kind of falls into line with the modern Olympic ethos of no discrimination, mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play!

There were mulitple bronze winners in the mens high jump so could go for gold as well.
