When i was about 14 years old I cycled from Peterborough to Leicester to see Leicester City v Arsenal. Peterborough were a non league side and the nearest 1st division side was Leicester City.
Arsenal had Swindon in goal and such famous names as Ronnie Rooke, Archie McCauley, Leslie Compton, Joe Mercer BUT, the guy that took my eye and i remember his performance today was a little, slightly built inside left called Jimmy Hennon.
tony...it all started when we won the world cup...Alf Ramsey picked Norman Hunter to play on the left wing in the next International match.......and that for me was the beginning of the end for wingers.
Inside forwards are now classed as Midfielders Sqad, not like the old formation of 5 Defenders and 5 forwards.
Football has changed so much
The big and powerful wealthy Clubs reign, to the detriment of the others.
Not much parity any more unfortunately
Sqad, best inside forward I think I ever saw was Johnny Giles in THE Leeds team (Sprake, Reaney, Cooper, Bremner, Charlton, Hunter, Lorimer, Clarke, jones, Giles, Gray), but I am a little bit younger than your goodself
