After winning the Tour de Romandie today Froomey has put himself forward as the major contender to win the TdF.

No point putting money on him now though, he's currently 16/11.

Could be worth a double though, him to win the TdF and Sir Bradley to win the Giro d'Italia.

He could probably have won last year - my only worry is if he is peaking a bit early this season?

He seems to have got to a level and is maintaining it IMHO.

He's doing it roughly the same way as Bradley did it last year, peaking at the TdF.

With Dave Brailsford but especially Tim Kerrison there will be nothing left to chance and I fully expect him to be in yellow on the Champs Elysees on 21 July for what will be a fantastic evening climax.
And leading off in Yorkshire in 2014 :)

Indeed SD, the next 18 months are very exciting for British cycling!
Is the Giro starting in Ireland next year too?
How much of the reason Froomey didn't win last year was because the team was backing le Wiggo?

I'd like to see Chris Froome at least be given the chance this year -- feels like it ought to be "his turn".

It is, first stage in Belfast I believe.

He will and it is. He is pretty much the confirmed Team Leader for the Tour. There is a suggestion that Bradley will get just as much support in the first week, just in case Froome suffers a race-halting crash etc but the route favours him anyway, Bradley knows that, hence his focus this year is the Giro.
Yes, this Kenyan/ South African will be favourite, and a British winner of the Tour de France, if he keeps the same team around him.
