Just been invited to a 40s evening tomorrow, prize for best dressed etc. No time to organise costumes now, which fortunately are optional, but what kind of things could we have worn if we had known earlier - most people don't have army uniforms tucked away in their wardrobes, do they? LOL ;)

My Mum and Dad went to a 40's night a wee while back. Dad went as Churchill.. brilliant costume! :)

No offence, heady - just had a thought though, that would have been totally unsuitable as my friend's father was in one, and we are going to the party with her .... her Dad survived though. :)

My friend and I (and my OH) were born in 1947 so thank goodness we didn't experience any of it - I would have been scared witless.

Gosh looking at the Google images of 40s fashion makes you realise how they come around again and again. I still have some long sunray pleated skirts in the loft from 70s.

and my Dad's demob suit was flares and winkle picker shoes in his photograph.
A ruched dress, rolled hair, platform shoes and seamed tights. If you can`t get seamed tights you can draw a line up the back of the leg with an eyeliner pencil

Had some fantastic platform shoes for my brother's wedding in 1972, they were enormously high, bright yellow with blue daisies on the side and really round toes LOL what memories .......... sadly, shoes long gone to charity shop ....
