Another week begins, and we are a day closer to the this year's biggest sporting spectacle, the Winter Olympics.

okay, so ...

CURLING

The sport which gave us of the most dramatic and unforgettable moments in British sporting history ... EVER!

Salt Lake City, 2002

Team Captain Rhona Martin has one stone left with which to win the Olympic Gold. And ...

Well, we all know what happened. I've just YouTubed it, and now I'm all tearful. Cripes, it just seems like yesterday. The single greatest, most dramatic, stone in the history of Curling.

Anyway, I'll post the clip below, because it's worth watching again. Watch Rhona in the small window. Before the stone hit it's target, she KNEW she'd done it.

You have to love the guy in the kilt, among the spectators.

The victory was so good, you can even forgive the team for holding the Union Flag upside down for the photo shoot.

Oh, hey, and note whose victory in the Heats put Team GB through to the final stages. Switzerland! You see, I told you the Swiss are lovely people.

So, I will also post our teams for 2014. Rhona Martin thinks we have a good chance of a medal. And Rhona is someone who would know!

Ever been to a Winter Olympics, Jane? If not, try and go as you will love it, I suspect.

I had the chance/privilege of being in Montreal in 1980 and it was a short trip to Lake Placid. Was there for the opening and I remember watching the women's Luge....nuts those folk and the commentator going on how some East German had been demolishing pounds of spuds at lunch to have the extra ballast in her.........

No, I've never been.
2018 is Korea - may have to be going to that if one of my kids makes it - but it's still a long way off.....she's already well up the US Ladies ranking for skating but unable to compete internationally yet as there are two different age limits for skating at National and International levels.

Wow !!

I wonder how much snow they get in Korea?
I will watch as much of the Winter Olympics as possible but will as ever draw the line at curling.

I will especially be keeping an eye out too for some Canadian showboating:

Wow, DTCf, that would be amazing. Good luck to her. I hope she makes it.
She needs ice! 5 inches of it on the rink.

Korea will be cold. I spent one Chinese New Year in Kyong-Ju and Seoul - and it never got above -8C the whole trip.....

Apart from competition, there's an awful lot of luck to get through as to falls etc...she is throwing the triples well already and with confidence including the salchow which often catches a lot of girls out. However, as long as she continues to enjoy it, that is the main thing. She started at a very young age - i.e. at 2 and a half.....great balance is one of her assets and it shows in other sports, her 2nd sport being archery of all things - she can lock her hips down with all the 'stroking' as they call the fitness training to develop the thighs (and her muscles are massive there!)

That is brilliant, DT

I've just watched Chill's vid clip.

LOL ... what a great moment.

And fab to see that the girl who came up to snatch victory was the Swiss girl.
Shorter clip and should play on AB, unlike the first vid:

That clip does play, Chill. The first one works if you just copy and paste the link into your browser window. Both hilarious clips.
