Bit long isn't it! Started at 3.30 today still going on, I am looking forward to the games but is it necessary to have such a long opening show, watched all the Olympians parading, but ballet etc going on forever! I know they like to showcase their Country, but enoughs enough!

I think ours was that long. the opening and closing ceremonies seem to be as much as a competition between countries as the games itself.
I agree. I'd rather get on with watching the sport. Could save an awful lot of money, too.
I think they copied some of the ideas for the opening ceremony from our 2012 Summer Olympics effort.
I'm watching on catchup and have the fast forward on high speed. I'll forgive the ballet though as it is their national dance and they did after all create the likes of Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and so on"
If you don't like ballet, well, err... you wont like the ballet I guess, - but it was superb dancing and I can't see how you would find it otherwise.
I watched it all and I thought it was a great spectacle.
Loved the photos of Princess Anne taking a book out of her bag and reading it during the long opening ceremony. I totally agreed with her when she said that the extravagant opening ceremonies distracted from the athletes.
