I watched the snowboarding and had to turn the volume to mute. All the two commentators were doing was quoting meaningless (to me at least) numbers; "here's a 9, followed by a backward 120" or whatever. I was disappointed for the 2 lads in not medalling but i was also a bit disappointed that the 'beeb' had not taken the time to explain - both in words and pictures - the various moves/tricks.
It certainly was a whole new language wasn't it! I found they did their best to explain as they went and I learned that switch was to go backwards and a goofer etc but it was fast and furious. Mind you, I'm none the wiser on the terminology in the figure skating or the moguls when they jump and spin. Just about understand a 360 eh?!
Girls snowboarding the morning, lets see if we can keep up with them any better.
The problem is, unless we know what it is we are supposed to be looking for in order to judge a performance in these disciplines, they all tend to look to be of the same level of expertise and execution. It's only when someone ends up sliding down the hill on their rear end that we know they've probably made an error:-)
