Low Flying Jets
12 Answers
I have just moved to Fleetwood, just north of Blackpool in Lancashireand often see low flying fighter jets in the sky. More now than when I first moved here.
I would be grateful if anyone knows to which base these fighters come from.
They usually head out towards the sea and sometimes in the direction of the Isle Of Man
Many thanks in advance.

A training run might take them along the east coast to somewhere around Whitby, allowing them to turn inland for some low-flying over thinly-populated areas in the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales, before heading northwards along the west coast and returning to base over the Trosachs.
They are from BAE Warton. I have lived on the Fylde Coast for over 20 years now and have got so used to them I rarely notice them. I did live in Freckleton some years ago, my street backed onto the test runway and it was pretty noisy there, you couldn't hold a conversation or hear the TV at all during test flights.
It is generally the Typhoons mentioned in previous posts, they build and test them at BAE Warton.

Great picture, slappy.
I was waiting for my Ryanair flight at Trapani (Sicily) a couple of years ago when the Italian Air Force howled off - absolutely deafening - we were queuing on the tarmac to go up the steps to board when the Typhoons took off.
[ Typically Ryanair are using a part military base "cos it's cheap innit" ]
Not my picture (I put my camera away 'quite quickly' when I realised what I was about to photograph).
But this was taken at the same place/time I think.
