On the subject of things Burnsy ... (see "Saltire" thread, below)

My new tartan tablecloth got delivered about half an hour ago.

Woo hoo!!

My dining table looks quite refined. Like in a Scottish country hotel. Not that I've ever been to one of those, but I can sort of imagine what it would be like. I've seen movies and things.

I bought it for Burns Night.

And yes, Olive has put it on the table, with the heatproof cover and the undercloth. There's clearly an art to laying a table. I try not to interfere.
I feel your passion Jayne if nobody else does! :0) What colour plaid?
Ooh!! I've just remembered! I have a tartan skirt haven't worn yet!!

Well, I have to admit, my pals are all coming round to cook with me. My cooking skills are not my forte.

But we (they) are planning ...

Hot-smoked salmon with avocado salsa and lobster oil (one of my pals came and made the oil yesterday)

Haggis, neeps, four different single malts

Loin of venison, Savoy cabbage, duchess potatoes, carrots

Cranachan, shortbread

Five Scottish cheeses
Jayne, seriously .... sounds brilliant! Yummy!
A tartan table cloth? Where do you put the sporran?
I saved a recipe for Cranachan, is the shortbread to dip in?
How far away are you joggerjayne, that sounds wonderful! I've had a large, oval tartan tablecloth for about 20 years. It looks wonderful and if I'm not using it on the table for Burns night I use it as a sort of wrap if I'm invited out for the festivities.
