Golf - The Open
We were up at dawn and drove home from our week away with every intention of enjoying a weekend watching The Open on TV. Thank goodness we didn't go to St Andrews, we thought about it. Are you like us, and missing the action?

Im finding it hard to get into this year, it could be the stop/start play or the slightly dreary commentary mind you I find the european tour commentators can send me to sleep, the american ones are much livelier.
Ironically in the states some people say they prefer our commentary to their own, strange!

one of the best sports to play though - the only outdoor game where you control the destiny of your ball, no one else interfering with it, except in your mind.....and why it is so good to be handicapped.
I must say that I prefer playing than watching - and I relish the wind having 'grown up' golf-wise on the links of St A and East Neuk. Last time I was up there in minty and nungate country it was blowing 30 and gusting 50 - wonderful and bloody difficult both into the wind and downwind (stopping the spheroid in the latter case!)

It is a pity that the weather has caused the event to be stretched
into Monday.
The BBC 'coverage' has been abysmal & it is probably a good thing
that this is their last Open.
Sky would have not switched to cooking & home improvement shows
and have commentators much better than the 'old' personnel - Viz
Peter Alliss & the very annoying Mark James

How can the BBC improve their coverage of today's play. There was nothing to cover! Once we had the delay, chewed the cud, watched clips from last year, rewatched the very good programme about Peter Alliss which we'd already seen last night, chewed the cud some more, they gave everyone a break and put on some other stuff. Dismal daytime TV I agree, but what more can this or any other channel do with an 11 hour delay?
