England out first now followed by the other home nations. Southern Hemisphere clean sweep in the semis, so disappointing, I dared to believe that the sweaties would get through but they choked at the end. My faith has been tested.

Talbot, the reason one cannot find a nickname for Englishmen is that no 'friendly' name exists for them! As a Scot, I am perfectly happy to be called a 'Jock' just as Welshmen used to be happy to be called 'Taff' and Irishmen 'Mick'. (Things may have changed in recent times, ever since we have all become so easily offended! There was nothing offensive in these nicknames whatsoever.)
However, alone among British residents, the English were never accorded such pally nomencalture!
That's because the English gave all the nomenclatures.
Limeys, Poms, Rosbifs. Many more. The English don't whinge about it though.
"Poms"
Isn't it "whinging poms"?
Well, Togo, it's pretty clear from your own answer that the English did not give "all the nomenclatures", since the ones you list are American, Australian and French!
Your claim is not even true as regards the UK nicknames, since each and every one I mentioned is just a local variant of a Christian name...Jock from John, Taff from the Welsh equivalent of David and Mick from Michael. All of them existed in biblical times, so long predating even the existence of England!
Well I never. Taff, Mick and Jock used during biblical times. There's me thinking that they were English derivatives.
Perhaps you missed the bit where I said they were "local variants".
