Just read that Ronnie turned down the chance of 147 break at the Welsh Open
for £10,000 said it was too cheap, he's not worth watching!

Arrogant git Once upon a time sport was about winning, nowadays people like O’Sullivan only care how much money they can get out of it

Sqad - //Snooker players now are .."entertainers" and people pay good money to be ..."entertained."

The audience wanted and paid to see a 147, not a 146 and R O'S should have gone for the 147, whatever the prize money. //

That would mean that Ronnie - and all sportspeople and entertainers in any form, danced to the tune of the audience.

If you get to the level that Ronnie O'Sullivan has, or Mick Jagger, or Leo Di Caprio, it is because you left behind the willingness to dance to anyone's tune except your own, a very very long time ago.

Maybe! maybe! although I don't see it that way, as the people that you have mentioned have arrived "at the top" by "dancing" to the tune of whoever is "calling the tune.
One is as only as good as one's last performance.....true in life as in the media.

We must agree to differ I think.

My perception is that it is precisely the rebel element of these examples that makes them rise above the rest - and majority - of 'tune dancers'.

//One is as only as good as one's last performance.....true in life as in the media.//

Let's hope that is true in Mr Jagger's case - his current income and reputation rest squarely on his band's ability to turn out a compelling live show - the Stones haven't released a decent album for over forty years!
a 146 is a lot rarer than a 147!
> The audience ... paid to see a 147

No, they paid to see a snooker match. A 147 is far from guaranteed, and now they can tell all their mates "I was at that match where Ronnie O'Sullivan refused a 147 and took the 146."

Maybe if they'd paid a bit more they'd have seen a 147 ...
I don't want to criticise him , however he can be a bit ambidextrous at times

...and sinister...
I definitely think there is a frisson of danger about him - perhaps if life had gone differently, he would have been a 'player' in other arenas.
"ust read that Ronnie turned down the chance of 147 break at the Welsh Open

He said the welsh open was cheap - racist &^%^%$$ - Mikey may I apologise on behalf of my countryman, scandalous.

I suggest you check this out ...

Well, Ding Junhui's just made a maximum so I guess the crowd got their entertainment after all -- and Ding got more money than he would have.
Not sure about that ... I think it only rolls forward to the next tournament, so Ding's only in for £10,000 (plus £2,000 highest break) and next tournament it will be reset back to £5,000.

Have these tables got oversize pockets or something?
I mean that Ding would have had to share the prize with O'Sullivan, presumably.

Not oversized pockets -- 147 breaks are just not so rare these days. Still a thing of beauty and supreme control, but more people have the ability.
> Still a thing of beauty and supreme control

Maybe you should have to do them in under 6 minutes to win a decent prize. Will this ever be bettered? It's like watching a work of art being completed ...

Indeed -- if ever a sporting record was going to stand for all time, then it's very probably that one.
I've just watched the clip again, and it is clear from the first red to the last black that it simply didn't occur to Ronnie that he could miss any of the shots in the break.

The sheer speed with which he planned and took those shots are a Master Class in break-building.

Wonderful.
Yes, it is brilliant. I love Dennis Taylor's "I don't believe this" when he gets down to the pink before the white's come to a stop. Ronnie's hit some superb shots and breaks over the years... my favourite is probably his 92 break in 2012. And then pretty much every shot he played in the 2013 World Championship.

This week, though, one scrappy frame against Yu aside, has been on superb form this week, and has just been mesmerising to watch. Hopefully, people will pay far more attention to that than to anything else he does.
