I'm truly lost for words... I'm not even sure what I just watched.

After so many friendlies it was odd that Hodgeson did not know his best team going into this tournament. Far too much meddling with squad from match to match. Rooney was our best player in the first two matches, only to be dropped in the third. He played his worse gave ever in an England shirt tonight. I watched him chicken out of 3 tackles tonight, which is very unusual. The normally magnificent Joe Hart just had a nightmare. Rashord played 19 minutes over 4 matches, which was pointless taking him. Even the penalty was the result of us cheating, very dubious.
A very very embarrassing defeat.

Evening Standard:
// Rooney produced one of his most influential displays in a tournament for years as he sprayed balls left and right in a deep-lying midfield role approximating the one former Manchester United team—mate Paul Scholes adopted at club level towards the end of his career.
The 30-year-old’s performance allowed England to assert a measure of control over Russia while still carrying a goal threat from midfield; he had a good chance to score from the edge of the box in each half, in the first with a well struck volley and later a placed effort which goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev did brilliantly to tip onto the post. //

pankysmooch,I didnt say the Itv panel dismissed Iceland,I said the majority of press and commentators did. As for representation on the panel? The Icelandic team were doing very well in the competition and I'm sure someone with a more personal link, than ex England players would have been more appropriate. As for the panel, full marks to Ian Wright for calling the whole mess like it was.
There was one England manager who confiscated the players' phones. This made them very angry, so they went out and deliberately played badly and got that manager sacked. Clearly, something similar has happened here
Something goes wrong with the England team and the players are NEVER held accountable. No wonder they've won nothing since 1966.
Those 11 men should never be allowed to play for England ever again
