Just thoroughly enjoying both Ladies' and Men's Rugby 7's in the Olympics. I've never seen this game version played before, it's great. Question is: I've just seen an obvious 'knock on' which was ignored by the Ref. and not mentioned by commentators, so does that rule not apply in 7's - given the speed of the match?
Any help from knowledgeable people appreciated. :)
Yes, the knock-on rule applies. I can only surmise that the referee missed it, assuming that it was indeed a knock-on. Unless the resultant play led to a try and there was a query it's not been spotted.
Thank you both very much. It was definitely a 'knock on' (I'm an avid League watcher) but having read Hans' link it would seem that the Ref. gave an Advantage. The circumstances agree. Thanks again, what a complicated game!
I'm sure what you saw was a knock-on. Your initial explanation was correct. Given the speed of 7s, more "errors" are made by the referee. Over time, crowds and commentators have started to understand this. However, the rules are no different.
