Rugby Union - Weight Of France's Starting Pack

While watching the Six Nations match yesterday, France's pack was described as weighing 'nearly a ton'. Despite scouring various reports, I'm unable to find the definitive answer for the actual total body weight of the starting eight so can someone oblige me with a figure please?

if the average weight was approx 18 stone thats 114.305 kg which comes to 914kg, not far short of a ton.

heavy but they tire and don't have the depth on their bench - some big backs too but they need more explosive acceleration - other than that famous Frenchman, Monsieur Scott Spedd-ing.

Thank you to every one who has taken the trouble to post an answer. As I was falling asleep last night, the thought occurred to me that, the first time that the packs engaged, there would be an indication of the weight of each pack on the screen and so I'm heading for the iPlayer!

Dave's answer was very close! At the first scrum, the weight of the France pack was 919 kg - that converts to 2,026 lbs and is merely 214 lbs short of a ton.

Surely that should have been 'nearly a tonne', shouldn't it? (i.e.you shouldn't need to convert to pounds)

Buenchico, that's a very good observation and I must admit that I hadn't thought about that. To me a ton is 2,240 lbs and, for that reason, I'm probably giving my age away because I'm not used to metric measurements!
