I've always been struck by the need for silence at t'snooker, unless it's the sudden eruption of applause from the match going on next door in which case it doesn't affect concentration.
Some might say that players of this pub game are just a wee bit precious and need to lighten up a tad.
Elder statesmen of the game who are now commentators make it sound like life saving surgery is being performed when it's really just hitting a ball with a stick and putting it in a hole.
