Update On The Butt Chucker
16 Answers
He has been unmasked and I am quite shocked.
It is our over the road neighbour. We smelled cigar smoke and saw him smoking one in his garden right opposite where the butts have been landing.
OK, we didn't actually catch him chucking the butt, but we have been very vigilant and have had several neighbours on standby too and not another soul in the street smokes cigars.
Lordalex told him to stop and, although there have been a few in the street since then, no more in our garden.
We smelled cigar smoke again a few days later and lurked by our gate watching his wall, when , surprise surprise up popped his head obviously checking that there was no one around before he chucked the butt.
He was clearly not pleased to see us, but no further butts.
We have taken the view that he may not be 'the full shilling' so are going to ignore him .....as long as he doesn't do anything else to annoy.
Thanks to everyone for their advice etc.
Just goes to show, doesn't it....he's been our neighbour for 20 years or thereabouts and, although we have never been friends, there has been no animosity that we were aware of.
Nowt so queer as folk.

I really do not want to lower myself to his level or to escalate things.
Actually, I did wonder if he might be starting with dementia. He's in his sixties so might be. In which case, he's more to be pitied really.
Anyway, no butts again today, not even on the road.
Fingers crossed.
Thanks all for the support.
And, anneasquith...you have him bang to rights. He did toss the butts, so is a literal t o s s e r.

I think we can now ignore the butts (well, pick them up and bin them) quite easily as we know where they were coming from. The worst bit was the not knowing and suspecting everyone that passed by.
We did our share of sniffing at people too to see if we could detect the aroma of cigars. Hope that passed unnoticed.

I got the other neighbours on to it too....everyone was watching out and sniffing on our street.....well, all the pensioners.
Seriously though, it's not pleasant to suspect everyone.
We're both fine, I'm glad to say, alba.
Lordalex is managing very well with his hearing aid and, although I had a bad patch with viruses and allergies I am now much better .
We're getting ready to visit the son-and-heir next week, so that will be marvellous.
