Curling Qualification For Semis

The men's GB team are in a tie break tonight to decide whether they or Switzerland go through to the semis.

I'm a bit confused as to why GB do not go straight through.

USA, GB, and Swi are all tied at third place on the table with 5 wins and 4 losses each after the round robins. USA beat both GB and Swi in the RR so USA go into the semis. However, GB beat Swi in the RR, so surely they have a superior record and should go through automatically. Shouldn't they? What am I missing?

I agre CJ - I thought that the GB team had qualified by reason of already having beaten the Swiss - I'm baffled by the need for another match.

They seem to have said :

"There are three tied, so the best go through & the other two play off"

Whereas I think the rules say :

"The best two go through and the other is eliminated"

It does seem like they have scheduled a session for tie breakers - so they are dàmn well going to have one !!

"If three or more teams are tied, the record of the games between them will decide"

"If two or more teams are tied for a qualifying position, one session of tie-breakers will be played to decide the qualifiers."

Seems contradictory to me.

I suppose they know what they're doing :/
