Winning Bet Refused

Three days ago, I went in my local Coral bookies shop and placed a £5 bet on England to win the football match.
Yesterday I went back to collect all pleased with myself. To the same guy (the manager) I said I've come to collect my winnings - he said - you havn't got any winnings because at 90 minutes the score was 0-0 and at that point England had NOT won and he refused to pay me out. He didn't void my bet either ,so no refund. Nobody mentioned this "rule" before I placed the bet. Can I. do anything about this blatant scam ? I still have my slip.

Nothing you can do and it isn't a scam, Dinger. There will be notices on the walls of the shops laying out their betting rules and it is up to the customer to read them. Sorry, but now you know.

No. It's common knowledge that bets on matches do not cover wins on penalty shootouts.

At 90 minutes the score was 1-0 to England, Columbia equalised in extr time.

Not just Corals, Stephen. Unless nominated as a 'special promotion' all football bets are settle on 90 mins play - which does, of course, include injury time.

I wonder if you could go to the office of fair trading for this one, you placed your bet for England to win that match, and they did. You did not state time , hour etc.

Hopkirk; in matches where a penalty shoot-out is possible, there are prices available for such an event, just as there are for a team to win in extra time. England to beat Sweden in 90 mins normal time @ 19/20, in extra time @ 17/2 and on penalties @ 9/1.

Gulliver, yesterday i did a straight forecast; horse A to beat horse B. Horse A duly beat horse B, but they finished last and next to last. Don't think i'll be paid out somehow :-/

Dinger, it's apparent that you very rarely bet on football. If you wish to continue doing so, i strongly suggest that you arm yourself with a copy of the rules and study them before parting with your hard earned.

I don't bet so don't understand the rules but if you can have a bet on a win in a specified situation, ie a win on penalties, why then can't you have a bet just for a win, irrespective of extra time, penalties, etc?

You probably can if you specify that and get agreement first.
Can understand Dinger's frustratiin though. It's not the obvious instinctive interpretation of betting on the result.

Vulcan, you can! But Dinger would have had to stipulate on his bet 'England to qualify' which covers all events, but the price would have been such that it would not have been worth placing a fiver on in the first place. We were odds on just to win in normal time.
