Each season, prior to the big kick off, i place a number of ante-post bets which will, hopefully, give me an interest almost throughout the entire season. Just spent about an hour and a half studying the departures and arrivals both in the UK and further afield. This acca is a result of that study;

Prem; Chelsea NOT to be in top 4
Champ; Middlesbrough promotion
League 1; Scunthorpe promotion
League 2; Notts Co promotion
Scots Prem; Rangers (w/o Celtic)
German Bundesliga; Dortmund (w/o Bayern)
It Ser A; Juventus
Sp La Liga; Barcelona
Port Primera; Benfica
Dutch Ered; PSV

@ just under 4,850/1 a fiver could realise £24,253 - which would be well worth waiting 40 odd weeks for :-)

Certainly some pundits reckon Middlesbrough for promotion to be a fairly safe bet. See here:
https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-united/this-is-where-sky-bet-pundits-think-sheffield-united-and-sheffield-wednesday-will-finish-this-season-1-9279885

Those predictions suggest that Rotherham will avoid relegation but I know some Rotherham fans who think that would be too much to really hope for ;-)
Am I the only one who finds the word 'footy' intensely irritating? It was unknown till Australian TV invaded our shores.
>>> It was unknown till Australian TV invaded our shores

That might depend upon which part of the country you're from. The Oxford English Dictionary has a 1966 reference to 'footee' from 'Lern Yerself Scouse', so maybe it's a northern thing. (I'm reasonably sure that I heard the term used in the early 1970s around Sheffield, when I was doing my teacher training).
It must be a regional thing then. I'm from the NE, Newcastle area, and never came across the word till the late 80s.

Jackdaw, are you just having a pop at my vocabulary because i've done your near neighbours (and arch enemies) the 'Boro for promotion? :-) Must admit, though, i really only use it when typing. Maybe it does emanate from Liverpool - we do seem to have quite a few 'Mickey's) in and around the Burnley area :-))

Another couple of ante post bets ahead of the forthcoming FOOTBALL season :-);

West Brom to win Championship @ 8/1
Bradford to win League One @ 28/1
Lincoln to win League Two @ 7/1

£1 Patent, £1.50 e.w. treble (Sky paying 4 places @ a 5th). 3 placed = approx £62, 3 winners = £5,892

Huddersfield relegated from Prem
Bolton relegated from Championship
Gillingham relegated from League One
Yeovil relegated from League 2
Livingston to finish bottom of Scottish Prem

£5 @ over 168/1 = poss return of £848

At least 2 more accas to find before i'm done with the ante post.
Oh no Ken. Please don't bet on West Brom.
That will really scupper our chances.
I will be on Baggies as well, in memory of the OH a sentimental fiver on Liverpool, and a kiss of death bet on man United to ensure they don't win
Question Author
So Hoppy, who will you blame if the Baggies don't 'Boing Boing' this season? Me or Rowanwitch:-)
Hoping to snatch JayRod off you - he belongs back home with his proper family :-)
If you want JayRod, you had better dig deep in your pockets.

I don't think I'll recognise the team that we field this season.
All power to Big Dave (Darren Moore)
Question Author
I think we may have a few bob more to add to the sum we already offered :-)
