I think it’s got its good points but not necessary

The big problem in football players is repeated concussions causing a brain condition known as Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (ETC)
Concussions are the problem.
However it has been shown that although "headgear" will provide protection from superficial injuries (broken nose, cuts ) they do little to prevent the brain for concussion.
Not my field of expertise, but it may be time to review the situation, but i can see no reason for change.

It's a contact sport, maybe we should have a cup of tea and watch cricketers.
haven't headguards been dropped from amateur boxing because they could exacerbate the problem?

just make it against the rules to head the ball as head guards would make it difficult to head the ball anyway.
(I think it’s fine the way it is tho)
I'm pleaded that he's doing ok... but seriously are you suggesting that eleven players turn out like Mr Blobby for eg. Like LFC in disguise

Remember when cricketers didnt wear headgear. After 1 or. 2 serious incidents things changed.
As broken (lower) legs are far more common than head injuries, let's start off by fitting stiff tubes to their lower legs (like cricket pads say, but going all the way round).
Aye but deliberately headering the ball when the ball’s hurtling at you down the pitch is not really part of cricket
Wear protection and ruin the hair does ? And another thing they should not be allowed to bring their kids on to the pitch after another game of cheating and deception .

What about Petr Czech?
Why does he continue to wear that head protection?
Because he had a fractured skull and has a piece of metal inserted into the skull bone. The headgear acts as protection.

So does it offer good protection, if so shouldn't everyone wear one?
cricketers' headgear isn't perfect
