Just read on ceefax about his autobiography when Moeen was playing against the Aussies. When one of them referred to him as"Obama" He could have meant that he looked like an American president,or he took it as an insult because Obama is black,if so he is no better than the Aussie.Or have I missed the point completely?
It sounds like typical sledging - at which the Australian test teams are world masters - I am sure Moeen ignored it, regardless of the meaning behind it.
It may have meant as being "just sledging", but there are certain lines that shouldn't be crossed in that context. I would venture to suggest that saying someone looks like a terrorist is one such line.
Talbot and Jim - I am not for one moment condoning or excusing such a comment, it is clearly unacceptable.
In the context of a Test Match, especially with the Australians, they appear to regard any and all sledging as fair play. It's designed to get under the opponent's skin and put him off, and it appears that in this instance, it was successful.
Less offensive sledging - legendary Australian bowler Merv Hughes was referred by the facing (English) batsman as a 'fat bus conductor'. When Hughes bowled him out with the next ball, he simply said "Tickets please …".
