Yep.It's that time of the year again and Wobblybum begins tomorrow - weather permitting, of course. As per usual, i fully expect my man Djoko to win the men's tournament but he's a restrictive price so i'll more often be including him in accas and trebles, etc. And i'm beginning the tournament with;

Djoko to win 3-0, Raonic to win 3-0, Tsitsipas to win 3-0, Halep to win 2-0, Putintseva to win a set and Venus Williams (39 y.o.) to beat Cori Gauf (15 y.o.).

Both players to score (win a set), Butterbun. Yeah, Lady Luck is definitely against me when the world number one exits stage left. She wasn't the only one to let me down, but she was the first - closely followed by Yastremska and Raonic. Just the Ladies 1/4 Finals tomorrow as far as my punting is concerned.

Minus £55 :-( My 'Wimbledon Bank' was £150 because i had intended to put a decent bet on Djoko to win the tournament. However, as i said in my first post, the price just wasn't attractive enough. I did look again when he was 1-1 (and seemingly out of form) against Hubert Herkacz in the 3rd round, but it hadn't changed. In the end, he just stepped up a gear and stormed through.
My main problem is, owing to work commitments, i haven't been able to watch as much of the tournament as i would have liked. The actual results don't always tell the full story so i have to rely on highlights and match reports to see just how well the players are doing. So, in the hope that Lady Luck has decided i am worthy of her presence;

Another fiver to the bookies (£60 down):-( Perhaps i should take 10C's advice he (allegedly) gave to the punters when he worked in a bookies. Then again, why become another misery guts and cease doing something i thoroughly enjoy? And i am hoping to thoroughly enjoy getting some of my £60 back from the bookies with today's bet.

Down at the first hurdle, so to speak. Either i underestimated Halep or overestimated Svitolina. I know i said earlier that you can't always judge a game on the final score but 6-1, 6-3 sounds pretty one sided to me. These two are ranked 7th and 8th so it ought to have been a lot closer:-(

It was one-sided. Halep had been world no.1 though and Svitolina has never been above no7, so there's a difference, also Svitolina has just recently returned after a few months lay-off because of a knee injury but she should and could have done a bit better.

No excuses, Butterbun. The injury hasn't hindered her so far in the tournament, has it? I'd have expected her to fight tooth and nail to get to the final. Gone down in my estimation. Not that that will worry her, of course, even if she were made aware of it:-) Will most likely do a double for tomorrow's men's matches.

Roberto Bautista-Agut had such confidence in himself that he had booked his stag do in Ibiza with 6 of his friends, who are already there (but plan to fly back to watch him - if they can get hold of the tickets?). He has beaten Novak Djokovic the last 2 times they met, in Jan and March of this year. However, they were minor tournaments, neither on grass, and the Serbian is a different animal in slams, particularly on grass. Djoko can do him a massive favour and win 3-0, thereby enabling the Spaniard to book a tea-time flight, maybe.
T'other semi is vastly more difficult to predict. Both players have looked almost unbeatable so far and Roger Federer even went a set down against Kei Nishikori in his last match, but recovered to win the next 3 sets. Rafael Nadal has only dropped one set so far but he, too, faced an uncomfortable first set in his last match against Sam Querrey before winning it 7-5, then easing through the next 2 sets. On clay, this would probably go to Nadal but a grass surface and Federer were made for each other. I fancy the Swiss to win - but this could well go the distance. As did their last 2 meetings at Wimbledon.

Just got in from work to see that Djoko dropped a set and Fed won 1st set in a tie-break. Went £5 Fed 3-2 @ 9/2.

Well, almost as i called it:-( It seemed Nadal wilted under the relentless pressure Federer put him under. So, on to the finals;
Can Serena Williams win her 24th slam and equal the record set by Margaret Court? Or can Simona Halep become the first person from Roumania to actually win the Wimbledon title, going one better than Ilie Nastase did in both '72 and '76? She isn't the fiercest of servers but she does have an uncanny knack of successful return of serves and that is where the match will probably hinge. I'm taking /serna to win, but not without a fight.
In the men's, it's no secret i regard Novak Djokovic as the best player ever to have walked the planet. He doesn't make it look as easy as Roger Federer and he wears his heart on his sleeve. Fed appears unflappable and, at times, unplayable, but Djoko has beaten him the last 2 times they met in the Wimbledon final - 3-2 in '14 and 3-1 in '15.
