I heard on the midnight news (TalkRadio) that Bury FC are no longer in existence.

A huge shame for a club steeped in history.

Bolton seem to be hanging on by their fingernails.

I'm not a football fan but this is sad to see. The big clubs get all the money and the rest are left to struggle.

Without coming across as condescending being a supporter of one of the richest clubs in the world, it does sadden me that smaller clubs are disappearing.

I don't think it's condescending, I take nothing away from the top thriving, successful Clubs and have no doubt that some of those falling by the wayside have not always made the right moves to keep going.

It just seems doubly sad that those who formed the foundation of the game seem to be the ultimaate losers.

Myl ife growing up was entwined with the Wanderers, Burnden (as was) was like a second home , entertaining new team members from out of town was always a pleasure.

I've being a Man United supporter for over 40 yrs, since I was a child so had to tolerate Everton/Littlepool years of success, My Uncles used to play for a local team... we did frequent Blacklpool a lot ;-)

I feel so, so sorry for the fans of Bury FC. For so long the heart of the town, they had a great season on the pitch last season, winning promotion. Yet while they were doing that, the dark spectre of liquidation hung over them. Had we (Burnley) not beaten Leyton Orient back in '87, i'm convinced the town would no longer have a football team. Bury (and possibly Bolton) have gone to the wall because of debts totalling less than some teams are able to spend on one player. Quite honestly, i find it sickening.

I feel sorry for the players and employees who now have no job. The club were a success on the pitch last season, gaining promotion, but were badly let down by a succession of grasping owners, and the EFL and FA.

For teams like Bury and Bolton, glancing over their shoulder at nearby Premier League teams, spending ridiculous money for ordinary players, it must be so galling and upsetting.

why don't the fans stump up? I don't get it they walk around heart broken, claim devotion, then let it go down the tubes. They could buy the club for a few hundred each.

I thought they were devotees? Anyway, if they bought it they could restructure, they are doing well on the pitch. The problem is that in doing the wages race most clubs are broke even some in the Premiership, they limp on with ever increasing costs. I don't think Jimmy Hill meant for this to happen when he got the pay cap removed.

But worth a read. It's far more complicated than fans digging around the back of the sofa for loose change, to add to the club's coffers. It's very sad for everyone concerned, and Bolton have only got two more weeks, or they could be next...

Why don't the Premier League clubs chip in £100,000 each year out of their petty cash boxes to create a support fund for occasions like this. It could help in the short term.

Wow! If that isn’t illegal, it certainly should be. It is immoral. Further confirmation that Dale is a crook.

If there was a support fund with money supplied from top clubs, that would encourage other crooks to pull the same scam.

Bury fans should crowd-fund the hiring of a hitman.
