Royal Mail Sexism - But Better Late Than Never

The Royal Mail has today released a commemorative set of stamps celebrating England Cricket's Men's team winning the World Cup this year.

They didn't do this for the Women's similar achievement in 2017, but they have now addressed this with a further set today celebrating the Women's achievement.

Surely a case of "We can't do it for the Men without doing it for the Women, we'll get slaughtered PR wise. So let's patch them in 2 years too late and hope for the best".

With the greatest respect to the ladies would they be a big enough seller to warrant a print run. Just asking.
I mean sexism implies it was a deliberate act. The fact they're thinkign about consequences and making amends before they come is quite forward thinking. Especially in this day and age.

This is a man's world But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing Without a woman or a girl.
Yes people love stamps don't they sad ***.
Yes, better late than never, or so I'm told.

The present issue for women is a separate print run from that for the men, so the answer to your question must surely be yes.

Unworthy of you Spath :-(
Yes but you've pointed out a second reason to run the print.

Times change anyway. We had the women's football world cup televised recently. It's a society more interested in women's sport than in 2017 so more likely to be considered worth printing now.

Yes, good point.
There is very little interest in the "womens" version of most major sports so there was little point in making stamps to celebrate a non-event.
However there is a lot of interest in sporting cup finals involving men so they make stamps to celebrate a memorable achievement.
Unfortunately the bleating liberal lefties will always cry "not fair" when the lesser of the two is not recognised, so yes it is a PR job.
The sad thing is, collectors can't miss a set or it will ruin their collection, so the same people that were saying unfair then have the ammunition to say "see told you there was interest".
Will they be on sale in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland? I'm just askin'. Yer know?
Bluemoon //There is very little interest in the "womens" version of most major sports //
No longer true.Interest in women's sport has been rising at a fast rate as this example shows:-
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-48882465
I agree with Bluemoon. The BBC are going to promote women in anything cos it's what they do. It's got to be women, in whatever. Not because they're any good or better than men, but just because they're women. Womens' sport is no comparison to the male version. Except Netball, perhaps.
10cs //The BBC are going to promote women//
Rubbish, the BBC only reported the news relating to the World Cup as you would expect it to.
The records that were broken were viewers for the "womens" version. Where are the comparison viewing figures with the mens?
The BBC trumpeted the figures they got for the womens semi final which was broadcast at a time when there was very little to watch on any of the other terrestrial channels and involved the England womens team. I don't recall any mention of the figures for the final, was that perhaps because very few watched it?
My late father was a keen stamp collector Spath, so do be afraid to go screw yourself.
It was some light banter not to be taken seriously. However,I will happily screw myself. You shouldn't discourage self pleasure or in fact shame it.
Bluemoon, viewing of the World Cup not confined to BBC:-
//The final between the US and the Netherlands drew 5.48 million on Dutch TV. Eighty eight percent of Dutch TV viewers watched the match, the highest TV audience in the country since the 2014 men's World Cup semi-final.//
I enjoyed watching the Solheim Cup even though there werent that many Uk players to the extent that i`m seriously considering going to Toledo, Ohio in 2 years time.
what's a print run, CAC? Canary's talking about stamps, which most people buy (or not, as they choose) regardless of what's on them, rather than a novel which has to have something in it to attract readers.

My guess is there are lots more people out there interested in women's cricket than in the gurning championship (which was on a stamp a few months ago).
I suppose they have to have something on the second class stamps.
