Virtual Grand National
34 Answers
Anyone having a pop at the pre-recorded Virtual Grand National today - ITV 5pm. As a rule, I have never gambled in the virtual market but this is different for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the prices will not change and the bookies do not prosper with all profits going to the NHS. Secondly, I already had 2 horses earmarked for the 'actual' race and I would be kicking myself if either were to win the virtual one. Plenty of time to make my mind up, I suppose.

I'd hate to be responsible for making people bankrupt :-)) However, I will tell you the two I have earmarked; Kildisart (in my mind one of the unluckiest losers at Cheltenham - I would say that 'cos I backed it - getting blocked when initially coming to challenge then regaining momentum and going down by a whisker in a photo finish) and Walk In The Mill - loves these fences having won the Becher's twice on the trot and finishing 4th in last year's National. Those are either two to avoid or two to have a little e.w. interest in. Do as you will - and the best of British.
Supposedly, ZM, there's a lot of data been programmed into the computer and a set of complicated algorithms have determined the likely outcome of the event. This has been used alongside previous Nationals; in 2017 it predicted Cause Of Causes to win (finished 2nd behind One For Arthur), in 2018 it correctly predicted a win for Tiger Roll @ 10/1, then last year it incorrectly forecast Rathvinden to win with actual winner Tiger Roll in 2nd.
By the way; horses DO fall in the Virtual Grand National (not in those screened every day in betting shops).

Correct Ken and I believe that the computer sis going to be predicting whether a horse was likely to be injured. If that is the case, and so that the annual moaners from the Disney character appreciation society don't feel left out, a couple of veterinaries are going to pop round to the yard and shoot the horse, and a couple of "big lads" are going to break the jockeys legs and a few ribs.

I haven't read this article but I think that it is about your race.

Well said Jno. Yes Togo I'm one of the " Disney character appreciation society" as you so rudely call those who actually find it abhorrent the amount of beautiful horses killed each year in both NH and Flat racing. Bit of background from this member of the "Disney character appreciation society". Horse owner/rider for over 50 years, working farmer and previously ridden in Point to Point- albeit more than 40 years ago. Actually owned two racehorses until I realised how it all works and how everything is basically fixed, and spent 15 years buying ex racehorses from Doncaster Bloodstock Sales and retraining them for riding horses. So yes, think I've earned my place in the 'Disney Character Appreciation Society"
