Now that Novak Djokovic's participation in the tournament is no longer a possibility, the men's title will probably go to either Daniel Medvedev or Alexander Zverev - Nadal on his top form would be a danger, and i know he's just won down under but his injury and illness will surely take their toll if and when he comes up against the top players. The prices of the aforementioned players do not appeal to me (7/5 and 12/5) so i'm concentrating on the women's title for my early bets.
My idea of the winner is two-time Aussie Champ Naomi Osaka @ 6/1. She took almost a year out because of her well publicised mental problems and she wasn't too convincing in her opening match (just 51% first serve success and 28 unforced errors in her 6-3, 6-3 victory). Hopefully that was down to lack of match practice and, just as hopefully, she will improve as she progresses.
A viable e.w. shot is Paula Badosa of Spain - currently on court versus Australian Ajla Tomljanovic. Having won the Indian Wells tournament last year, she is currently ranked 6 in the world and should any of the big guns falter, she could be the one to benefit.

£10 win Naomi Osaka @ 6/1 - Willy Hill
£5 e.w. Paula Badosa @ 16/1 - 365

You don’t fancy the chances of our own home grown lass Ken ? She looked in pretty good form tonight :)

Of course i think Ashleigh Barty can win the tournament, Seekerz, but she is 13/5 fav to do so. I'm not a fav backer and prefer to look for a bit of value.
Fair enough, I’m not keen on backing short priced favourites esp horses, but in Ash’s case I’d make an exception...she looks very strong.

Would you have backed Novak had he been playing ?
Question Author
He would have been too short a price to back outright - as per usual - but i would have had correct score bets on him in every round during the 2nd week. That's how i usually make money with the Djokerman. Something i might do with Zverev and Medvedev later in the tournament - they'll probably win their first week games 3-0 and those scores are usually short prices.

As an aside, if i thought 'our' Emma stood a cat in hell's chance, i'd be lumping e.w. on her @ 40/1. But i don't :-/

After a nervy 1st set (won 6-4), Miss Badosa sailed through the 2nd set to win 6-0. :-)
I am rooting for Tsitsipas!!
And that Daniel Altmaier played well for a newbie! Someone to look out for in future matches.
Anyone watched Andy Murray and his epic match??? Good game
Question Author
Both ladies comfortably through to the 3rd round though Osaka was made to work a little harder in her 2nd set, 6-0 6-4. Badosa eased through 6-0, 6-3.
No big shocks as yet.
Yes definitely cheering Andy on, he looked pretty whacked at the end though.

Good to see all the girls going well - one of my favs is Sam Stosur, great to see her progress :)
Question Author
Done a little bet which could earn me money while i sleep:-)

Maxime Cressy 3-1 @ 10/3
Daniel Evans 3-1 @ 11/4
Taylor Fritz 3-1 @ 3/1

£1 Trixie, £1 Treble = £5 staked for a possible £185 return.
Question Author
Cressy obliged, Evans had a walkover and Fritz won 3-0. A Trixie is a bet which needs two winners to show a profit, not a winner and a 'non-runner'. Received £4.34 so lost a whole 66p :-((

Raducanu v Kovinic proving to be a very interesting match. Emma just levelled at 1-1 (4-6, 6-4). Gonna be a question of who wants it more but as i said on another thread, Kovinic never been beyond 2nd round in a slam.
Raducanu showing a lot of grit
Not sure how she has come by a blister on her right hand though ?
Lack of practice/court time ?
Is Raducanu on the TV, do you know?
Spicerack
