I think in your eagerness to justify your prophesy, you've missed the point of his post - forward pass being used as a euphemism for death, nothing to do with the try.
Anyone tries to stop him getting through the Pearly Gates (I doubt they would), one deft sidestep and he'll be in.
Looking at that try again, under modern rules it might not have happened. John Williams I think it is is nearly garrotted by a high tacke early on (!).

While looking at an old film of that barbarians-all blacks encouner it was funny watching the haka from 1973: looks quite tame compared to now (apart from one rude hand gesture it looks like they're doing air guitar karaoke!)
