Changing Rooms Permanently Closed In Tesco !!

So my missus has just come back from the clothing dept in Tesco with about 10 items of clothing.
Apparently, Tesco policy has permanently closed the changing rooms. The result - people buying 2 or 3 sizes of each item, taking them elsewhere to try them on and then taking the rest back ..... absolute stupidity in my opinion.
My missus knows she'll be taking most of what she bought back to Tesco, resulting in more work as some of the items will need to be re-tagged with a security tag and then they need putting back out on display, etc.
I'm not sure if this is down to Covid or meant to be a cost-cutting exercise, but it's madness in my opinion.
When I buy jeans, I usually need to ty on at least 10 pairs as I'm a really awkward size and I need to make sure they fit right. I somehow can't see myself buying 10+ pairs of jeans, taking them home, trying them on and taking the rest back.
Guess where I won't be shopping for jeans from now on??

As an afterthought, I'm also wondering if anywhere else has permanently closed their changing rooms as well??

I never try on clothes in any supermarket.
I buy them, take them home and try them on there. If I don’t want to keep any then I take them back next time I go to the supermarket.
Easy peasy.
Asda in Stowmarket got rid of their changing rooms for their 'George' range of clothing several years ago. This Mumsnet thread seems to indicate that they've done so in many other places too:

As mentioned in that thread, Sainsbury's have either never had changing rooms in their TU clothing sections or seem to have got rid of them.

Morrisons have been greatly expanding their Nutmeg clothing departments within many of their store but without introducing any changing rooms.

On the face of it, it might seem like it could save money as they don't have any changing rooms to maintain, clean, etc ..... yet as I'm typing this, my missus is leaving the house, taking back EVERY item she bought, because some don't fit and others "don't look right on her".
well it hasnt lost them money then has it?
plus tesco have given her double the opportunity to buy something else :)

Do they not have to steam clean the returned items or did that cease when lockdowns ended?
Like I said to M&S not to long ago, if I can't try them on I won't bother. It costs money in travel, bus or car / parking taking stuff back and forth. They are shooting themselves in the foot regarding high street sales.
It's not the cleaning costs, etc, that are the cause of the problems. It's the level of thefts.

If an item is security tagged, it's hard to remove the tag in the main store without being picked up on CCTV. Take it into the changing rooms and (by following instructions easily found on the internet) it's easy to do without being seen.

Similarly, it's easy to nip into a changing room with several garments, undress, put your favourite item on, then put your regular clothes back on top of it. A security guard watching the store's CCTV will just see that you went in with a pile of clothing and came out with a pile of clothing, not spotting that there's one item less in that pile.
//When I buy jeans, I usually need to ty on at least 10 pairs //

I'd be surprised if they stocked 10 different sizes!
Dave, different styles, brands, cuts will all size differently, even if the labels shows the same size
davebro, the same size can come in a multitude of different shapes
Avoids the gender identity problems, too
I saw that in Tesco recently too, with signs saying that they had changed the Returns rule to 100 days in order to compensate/offset any inconvenience aspect.
I think the OP was engaging in a bit of hyperbole when he said he tries on 10 pairs of jeans.
Sainsbury's still have changing rooms - sometimes they are open and sometimes not. Probably saves on staff costs because someone has to 'man' them. Plus they have your money for a week or more (in some cases) which is like a free loan for them.
I never try them on either - if they're massive I buy - LOL
It costs more to process a return than the money gains in interest over the course of a few weeks
Yes my local Asda has shut their changing room. A real nuisance.
I’ve bought a few clothes in Sainsburys and I know that their TU range fits me in my size. If it really doesn’t work I’d probably pop it in the charity bag as it’s usually so cheap it’s hardly worth returning.

It might help if manufacturers of women's garments could agree on a standard sizing system, that actually made sense, and they stuck with it.
