Did anyone see a scissors/bicycle kick in this tournament? I didn't. A step over? A double drag back, ie, drag the ball back with one foot, then further back with t'other? The ridiculous statement that it's the first major football win for 56 years is pathetic. It's the first womens major win. It's women, folks. Comparing it to the mens' record is pointless and futile. I saw a brilliant back heel kick that nutmegged the keeper, and a one-on-one resulting in a inch perfect chip over the keeper to score. Very skilful and expertly done.

I attended a womens football match in 2009. It was the Womens League Cup Final between Everton and Leeds United at Spotland, Rochdale. My granddaughter was the mascot for Leeds United. It was a freezing February night. But she loved it. As much as any youngsters love being involved, if they can.

If a male player had done it in the semi-final of a major tournament, you'd be campaigning for a statue for them. This whole thread is a case of "I'm not sexist but..."

The skill level of the womens game is very far off the mens currently but that’s to be expected given the difference in money in the game and all that that enables. They will never be equals due to physique, same as tennis or golf but I do think that with more investment the skill level could be upped to being able to beat national league sides, probably by playing a possession game - hard to score if you don’t have the ball!

The womens game seems a lot more positive, maybe because gambles tend to come off more? Although less skill and obviously less power the pass accuracy and movement off the ball is intelligent and the passion for the game can’t be faulted. It’s a different sport but I enjoyed the semi-final and the final the only games I watched, decent games of football I’ve seen a lot worse mens games.

Fair point Doug and there certainly is a bit of that about, but there's a lot of people that just enjoy watching a good game of football, and that can be an under 8s cup final, or a Sunday league derby.. Where expectations on skill levels are adjusted appropriately and replaced with delivery of passion, a bit of excitement and some decent football every now and then - and that final delivered... Posts like this OP seem to be insinuating that the enjoyment of the spectators should be tempered due to the low standard of the teams compared to the mens game and that misses the point of why people enjoyed it.
